# Bolt Knob Medium (Rock)

**Rock Texture Medium Bolt Knob, 5/16"-24**

Same Medium bolt knob, different surface. The Rock texture is one of three grip patterns we offer on this knob, and choosing between them is a matter of what you like in your hand — the 0.75 in. (19.1 mm) outer diameter, the 0.26 oz (7.5 g) weight, the Nylon 12 body, and the 5/16"-24 thread are identical across all of them.

Every knob in the family is dyed black rather than painted, so there is no coating sitting on top of the part to chip off and expose a different color underneath. The Medium is the all-around pick: noticeably more to grab than a factory knob without the bulk of the Large, and it keeps your rifle's balance and profile close to stock.

## Features

- Rock surface texture is one of three grip patterns offered on this knob, so you can pick the one that feels right in your hand rather than settling for whatever the knob came with
- Dyed black all the way through, with no paint or coating on the surface to chip, flake, or wear down to a different color underneath
- Same 0.75 in. (19.1 mm) outer diameter, 0.26 oz (7.5 g) weight, and 5/16"-24 thread as every other Medium bolt knob we make — the texture is the only thing that changes
- Nylon 12 construction stays light, shrugs off solvents and moisture, and never goes ice-cold in your hand the way a metal knob does
- Universal 5/16"-24 threading drops onto most bolt-action rifles, including the Remington 700 and Ruger American, using nothing but a hex key

## FAQ

### What is the Rock texture, exactly?

Rock is the name of a surface texture, nothing more. It is one of three grip patterns we offer on the Medium bolt knob, alongside our standard knurl and the Vine texture. It is not a camouflage pattern and it has nothing to do with terrain or concealment — every knob we make, in every texture, is dyed black. What changes between them is how the surface looks up close and how it feels under your fingers.

### Does the Rock texture grip better than the standard knurled knob?

Not meaningfully. All three surfaces are cut to give you positive purchase with bare or gloved hands, and we are not going to tell you one of them grips harder than the others when the honest answer is that they are comparable. This is a look-and-feel choice. Handle whichever one appeals to you and you will not be giving up control to get it.

### Should I get Rock or Vine?

Whichever you prefer the feel of. Both are the identical Medium bolt knob — same 0.75 in. (19.1 mm) diameter, same 0.26 oz (7.5 g) weight, same Nylon 12, same 5/16"-24 thread, both dyed black — and both grip comparably. The only difference is the surface pattern itself. There is no performance argument for one over the other, so pick on preference and do not overthink it.

### Will the Rock texture wear down or fade?

It wears the way any regularly handled bolt knob wears. The color is dyed into the Nylon 12 rather than sprayed onto it, so there is no paint layer to chip away and no lighter base color hiding underneath — a scuff on this knob is still black. Over enough seasons the high points of the texture will pick up a bit of polish from your hand, same as the knurl does on our standard knob. That is normal and it does not affect grip.

### Why choose the medium size?

The Medium is the all-around pick: noticeably more to grab than a factory knob without the bulk of the Large, and it keeps your rifle's balance and profile close to stock. At 0.75 in. (19.1 mm) in diameter it is a clear step up from a factory knob, and the Large sits above it at 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) if you want to go the other direction. The texture you choose has no bearing on this — every texture is offered on the same size bodies.

### Can I install this myself?

Yes, in under two minutes. Turn your factory bolt knob counterclockwise to remove it, then thread the Medium knob on clockwise until it is snug. A standard hex key lets you get it properly tight without over-torquing. The 5/16"-24 thread fits most bolt-action rifles, including the Remington 700 and Ruger American. Because it is a simple thread-on swap, you can put your factory knob back on any time with no permanent change to your rifle.
